Job Advertisement: Guide and Coordinator at Stockholm City Hall

Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. We are now looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.

The City Executive Office is the administration of the municipal executive board. We are responsible for governance, follow-up, and development of the city's operations based on the vision and budget decided by the city council. We are over 300 employees who mainly work with strategic issues that have great significance for the city's operations.

Stockholm City Hall is undoubtedly one of the most famous buildings in Stockholm, both among Swedish and foreign visitors.

Throughout the year, we offer tours to our visitors who want to know more about the architecture, politics, and events, with the Nobel banquet being the most famous. The City Hall can only be visited with a guided tour. Due to a parental leave and a study leave, we are now looking for two substitutes for our operations. We offer an intensive and varied job in an international environment, with engaged colleagues, who both manage and renew the operations. Most of our tasks are performed in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written. We provide our visitors with a wonderful experience of this fantastic building by telling them about it with great enthusiasm and a sensitivity to the varied needs of different groups.

Job Content

The working hours are scheduled and mainly during the day, but evening work may occur. You work every sixth weekend, as well as many holidays.

As a guide and coordinator, you have a job that is largely operational, so it is important that you enjoy that and value that part of the job. We are twelve colleagues who share the daily tasks, as we:

  • guide visitors in Swedish and English
  • sell tickets and inform about the visit
  • handle bookings
  • supervise and work closely with the hourly staff
  • schedule the next day's tours
  • have a helicopter view of the operations during the day

For most of the year, the ticket office is located in the shop, where tickets and souvenirs are sold in the same place. In this role, you will also perform regular shop duties, such as unpacking, pricing, and restocking items.

In addition to the operational tasks, the role also includes some other administrative elements. Other tasks may be added.

Your Experience and Competence

Since language is our primary tool, you speak and write polished and fluent Swedish and English. We use our languages at an advanced level, where we talk about art, architecture, politics, and history. You do not need to know all the terms and special expressions from the start, but you should feel comfortable in both languages. You should also be able to adjust your language level according to different groups.

It is an advantage if you, in addition to Swedish and English, speak German, French, Spanish, or Italian fluently.

You have experience from previous work in service or tourism. The work often varies in intensity, both during a day and between seasons. You should have tested how it is to work in a high-stress environment, to know how you react and that you can maintain your good demeanor even during periods of high pressure.

You have studied at the university level and can understand and absorb large amounts of information and you can weigh and assess what is relevant.

You have good computer skills and good knowledge of the Office suite. You find it easy to familiarize yourself with new systems. We use booking, ticket sales, scheduling, and invoicing systems daily, to mention a few.

You are structured and enjoy administration, and you have experience of it from previous jobs.

Do You Want Yourself as a Colleague?

With us, where we work closely with our colleagues and share the same tasks, collegiality is very important and weighs heavily in the selection. We care that you are a good colleague and that you are a fine representative for the City Hall and the City of Stockholm. Therefore, we place great importance on your personality. We think these are important qualities and experiences in a colleague:

  • a highly developed sense of service where you give visitors your focus.
  • smooth collaboration with colleagues, temporary staff, and external parties.
  • responsiveness and good communication
  • a structured working method
  • the ability to quickly switch between different tasks
  • own initiatives
  • accuracy that does not cross over into perfectionism
  • patience and a pedagogical way of both telling and explaining

Other

Interviews will take place during the second half of April. To apply for this position, you must be available during this period. If you live or study in another location or country, you must be prepared to come to the City Hall up to two times. Training will take place at the beginning of the employment.
